Chaka Khan + Bikram Yoga -Yes, Please!

Holy, smokes!

Today my life has forever been changed! I had my first Bikram Blend class with music and it was nothing short of amazing. I am so hooked! If you have never experienced this nirvana moment allow me to paint a vivid image:

Class temps are still hot as hell, but as the opening standing deep breathing (pranayama) are done, Janelle Monae’s “Yoga” plays.

Me and Brittany, we’ve been down in Atlanta
Sweating in the club, call me Dirty Diana
Flexing like a yogi, drop it down with your hands up

Well played yoga studio. Well played. I see what you did there and I am impressed. Class flow progresses normally and then…BAM! Sun salutations! The yoga studio becomes an exquisitely choregraphed dancefloor in which I, unfortunately, do not know the steps. No sweat though. By the third round I slowly fall in. Kinda. Maybe. Okay, I was still a hotmess.com. However, class picks back up with the Bikram postures. Now, that…I do know. Then, out of nowhere during Locust pose (superman) I hear…

Captured effortlessly
That’s the way it was
Happened so naturally
I did not know it was love
The next thing I felt was
You holding me close
What was I gonna do?
I let myself go
And now we’re flyin’ through the stars
I hope this night will last forever

Awwwwwww, wait a minute! Are they playing Chaka Khan right now? When she hit that,

Oh, oh, oh,.. Ain’t nobody
Loves me better

I thought I was going to lose my mind! I kept my composure. I played it cool. My shoulders may or may not have vibrated ever so slightly on the- oh, oh, oh part. Come on now, I’m only human! Oh, wait- more sun salutations! This time I manage to hang with the class for two rounds. That’s progress right? The final moment that sealed the deal on my new obsession with Bikram Blend came during camel pose.

Just back into it
And let it touch (touch)
Come on and move
And let it touch (touch)
We cannot lose
Just let it touch (touch)
I will be true
Come on and let it touch

Omarion’s “Touch” played and I could take it no longer. I hit a pop lock while mean mugging in the mirror. The rhythm took over. I’m just glad everyone else was staring at the ceiling when I did it.
